Bulgarian judoka Ivaylo Ivanov won a bronze medal in the under-90 kg weight class at the European Judo Championships held in Podgorica, Montenegro. This is the first medal for the Bulgarian national team at the tournament.

In the bronze medal match, Ivanov, who is a former European silver medallist at Minsk 2019 and Prague 2020 in the 81 kg weight class, defeated Serbian judoka Nemanja Majdov, a former European and world champion. The Bulgarian secured victory in overtime, throwing his opponent on his back 2 minutes and 45 seconds into the golden score period, achieving a clean ippon win.

Bulgaria has a total of 12 competitors at the European Championships, but during the first two days of the event, the other eight national athletes achieved only one win each.
