site.btaConsumer Basket Price Drops BGN 2 from Last Week, Hits BGN 95

The price of the consumer basket is BGN 2 lower than last week and amounts to BGN 95, Vladimir Ivanov, Chair of the Commodity Exchange and Wholesale Markets State Commission told a press conference on Monday.

Ivanov reported that the country is enjoying a stable, balanced market with normal market interactions. He added: "We have not yet entered the autumn period, which is characterized by slightly more tension, especially when goods and their supply decrease, when one product leaves the market and another enters." He noted that this autumn, there is a good supply of root vegetables and seasonal vegetables such as broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage, adding that this will result in better prices compared to last year for these types of vegetables.

Compared to last week, vegetables and fruits that saw lower wholesale prices were tomatoes by BGN 0.06 per kg, courgettes by BGN 0.10, lemons by BGN 0.29, watermelons by BGN 0.09, apples by BGN 0.07. Potatoes and bananas retained their prices.

The wholesale prices of cucumbers increased by BGN 0.05 per kg, carrots by BGN 0.03, cabbage by BGN 0.03, red peppers by BGN 0.14, green peppers by BGN 0.12, grapes by BGN 0.09.

Among the basic foodstuffs, yellow kashkaval cheese is up by BGN 0.13 per kg, chicken by BGN 0.04, white brined cheese by BGN 0.11, pork by BGN 0.07, yogurt by BGN 0.09, milk by BGN 0.02 per litre, eggs by BGN 0.01 a piece.

Foodstuffs that saw price drops were rice by BGN 0.05 per kg, haricot beans by BGN 0.04, sugar by BGN 0.04, grade 500 flour by BGN 0.03, sunflower oil by BGN 0.05 per litre. Butter retained its price from last week.

Ivanov presented the changes in wholesale product prices from May 20 to date. All product prices are per 1 kg unless otherwise specified. All prices are given in BGN.
