The Bulgarian Association of Wine Professionals (BAWP) will be holding Mavrud festivals in five Bulgarian cities. "The International Mavrud Day is the biggest event organized by BAWP, as this wine is closest to the heart of wine lovers in Bulgaria," Zhivko Enchev, Chairman of the BAWP Board, said here Tuesday during an event at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia, presenting a national campaign titled BG Wine Leads the Way.

"BAWP is made up of experts from various fields – winemakers, sommeliers, traders, marketers, and wine lawyers – and this is exactly where we see our strength," emphasized Zhivko Enchev. "We are organizing urban wine festivals in five regional capitals, which is the fastest way to spread the love for wine that we share," Enchev added. He noted that this initiative is growing and gaining recognition among people. In this way, communities and local festivals are being created with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture. This, he said, represents one of the most important aspects of the development of Bulgarian wine: marketing.

According to him, Bulgarian wine ranks high in terms of quality, but it needs a bit more support to become more appealing and competitive compared to other wine destinations around the world.

"I have never participated in such a collaborative and well-organized effort," Enchev said regarding the organization of the initiative.
