The Council of Ministers Thursday approved a Strategy for the Development of the Bulgarian Defence Technology Industrial Base, the Government Information Service reported. The need to develop a new strategy to replace the existing one stems from the mismatch between the current strategic framework and the rapidly changing international security environment, the current priorities in the country’s defence policy, and contemporary trends in the development of defence industrial and technological capabilities at the national, European, and allied levels.
The new strategy aims to provide an up-to-date, consistent, and long-term framework for the development of state policy regarding the sector. The concept envisages improving cooperation between the State, industry, and the research community, strengthening the integration of Bulgarian enterprises into European value chains, and supporting the modernization of the Bulgarian Army through national industrial and innovation potential.
Within the framework of the strategy, technology transfer, the development of industrial cooperation, and the participation in joint European initiatives and projects will be encouraged. The goal is to increase the predictability, consistency, and effectiveness of State policy, to strengthen the sector’s competitiveness and innovation capacity, and to create conditions for long-term development and international cooperation, the press release reads.
