Bulgaria's future membership of the eurozone is an opportunity and a prerequisite for better, faster growth, Deputy Finance Minister Metodi Metodiev said on Thursday in Plovdiv during the opening of an information event, part of the national awareness-raising campaign for the introduction of the euro in Bulgaria.

"We are only weeks away from the practical introduction of the euro, which has been a commitment of our country since 2007 with its entry into the European Union. [...]. Hundreds of experts have contributed to the effort, various institutions. They worked hard over the years so that we could be here today," he emphasized.

He pointed out that over the years, the necessary steps have been taken, related to both the implementation of a number of structural reforms and the necessary legislative changes, so that Bulgaria's legislative framework meets the requirements of the eurozone countries. Metodiev stressed that there has been a very effective coordination between the Bulgarian and European institutions. "All this has led to the current moment when we can safely say that our country is ready to introduce the euro," the deputy minister concluded.
