Revenue from overnight stays at accommodation establishments in Bulgaria went up by 15.7% in May compared to the same month in 2024, reaching BGN 134.2 million, the National Statistical Institute said on Thursday. Of these, BGN 68.8 million came from foreign visitors and BGN 65.4 million from Bulgarian nationals. 

In April 2025, revenues from overnight stays increased by 17.5%, year-on-year, totalling BGN 100.6 million. Bulgarians contributed BGN 61 million and foreigners BGN 39.6 million.

In May, Bulgaria had 2,658 accommodation establishments offering 237,100 beds, an increase of 1.7% compared to 2024. The total number of overnight stays reached 1,532,200, up by 7.4% from the previous year. According to the data, bed occupancy was highest in 4- and 5-star accommodation establishments, with foreigners making up 80% of guests and Bulgarians 47.1%. Three-star establishments saw 11.7% foreigners and 25.1% Bulgarians, while 1- and 2-star establishments hosted 8.3% foreigners and 27.8% Bulgarians.

In May 2025, the number of overnight stays reached 658,900, an increase of 7.8% compared to the same month in 2024. Bulgarian guests numbered 408,100, with an average of 2 nights spent, marking an increase of 10.2%. Foreigners totalled 250,800, with an average of 2.9 nights spent, an increase of 4.2%. The data show that 78.1% of foreigners stayed at 4- and 5-star establishments.
