Deputy Minister of Economy and Industry Nevena Lazarova had a meeting on Thursday with representatives of the Bulgarian Association of the Metallurgical Industry (BAMI) and representatives of the defence sector. The main topic was the potential for closer cooperation between the two sectors.

Lazarova emphasized that the metallurgical and defence industries are strategic for the country’s economy. She noted that the Bulgarian metallurgical industry has significant capacity to actively participate in projects under the European Defence Fund (EDF) and through the SAFE Regulation, as well as to partner with defense enterprises through cross-border cooperation.

BAMI representatives highlighted that the Bulgarian industry has high technical readiness, modern low-emission facilities, and already applies sustainable production practices aligned with European industrial priorities. The defence sector leaders noted that specific projects and technological solutions have been developed which already meet the goals of European industrial policy.

Lazarova said that a platform will soon be created to enable sustainable cooperation and the implementation of joint projects between the two industries.
