Bulgaria’s Minister of Economy and Industry Peter Dilov and Moldovan Ambassador to Bulgaria Emil Jacota discussed opportunities to expand bilateral economic cooperation, the Ministry said in a press release on Monday.
The two officials outlined key areas for deepening trade and economic ties, including infrastructure, winemaking, energy, pharmaceuticals, and investments in high value-added technologies and services.
During the meeting, it was noted that, according to Bulgarian National Bank data, trade between Bulgaria and Moldova grew by over 25% in 2024 compared to 2023. Moldovan direct investments in Bulgaria reached EUR 19.5 million by the end of 2024, while Bulgarian investments in Moldova amounted to EUR 250 million.
According to Dilov, the current level of economic cooperation does not reflect the full potential of our two countries," Dilov said, adding that Bulgaria will continue to support the deepening of relations with Moldova.
Jacota noted that Bulgaria is among Moldova’s top ten economic partners and expressed confidence that cooperation will continue to grow, especially after Bulgaria's expected accession to the eurozone on January 1, 2026.
Both sides discussed the possibility of holding a new session of the Intergovernmental Bulgarian-Moldovan Commission for Economic Cooperation, and a business forum, in the near future.
The ninth session of the Commission was held in March 2024 after an eight-year hiatus. During the meeting, Bulgaria and Moldova signed an agreement to open a branch of Ruse University Angel Kanchev in Taraclia, as well as a memorandum of cooperation between the Bulgarian and Moldovan Investment Agencies.
