In 2025 Bulgaria had its best winter season, said Minister of Tourism Miroslav Borshosh at a briefing at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday, citing data from the first four months of the year.

“For the first time during this period of the year, Bulgaria has surpassed two million tourist registrations. That’s a 6.4% increase compared to last year, and a 22% increase compared to 2019, the year before the COVID crisis. We always provide both comparisons because they are key benchmarks in tourism development,” Borshosh pointed out.

“This success is the result of our highly focused advertising and marketing strategy,” the minister added. Miroslav Borshosh shared the number of tourist registrations in recent years: 1,642,000 in 2019, 1,891,000 in 2024, and 2,012,000 in 2025.

“We’re seeing growth among both domestic and international tourists. In 2025, 1,389,000 Bulgarian tourists were registered, while registrations of foreign tourists reached 632,000. This is also a kind of record, as it’s the first time we’ve exceeded 600,000 registrations for this period. The total number of overnight stays is also on the rise,” the minister explained.

Minister Borshosh stated also that according to Eurostat, Bulgaria ranks among the top 10 countries with the fastest-growing winter tourism sector in the January-March period.
