The South Beach in Nessebar is among Bulgarian sites that have received the international environmental Blue Flag Award for 2025.
Beach Manager Kiril Spasov emphasized that foreign tourists attach particular importance to the Blue Flag, which shows that the area is clean and safe for recreation. He noted that the beach has been leveled, trash cans have been placed, changing rooms have been provided, beach umbrellas and sun loungers are installed, as well as lifeguard towers, signs and information boards. The medical point is equipped with the necessary medications and equipment.
The official opening of the 2025 summer season will be on June 1, Spasov said, adding that two lifeguards at each post will take care of the safety of visitors. From July, their number will be increased for more effective security during the busiest summer months, continuing until September 30, he commented.
The Blue Flag Award is given by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education, with over 50 countries participating in the programme. In order to qualify for the Blue Flag, a series of stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility criteria must be met and maintained.
BTA is presenting all 30 Bulgarian beaches and harbours awarded the Blue Flag by the international jury of the Programme in Copenhagen. It is the 30th anniversary of the first award for the country - the pilot Blue Flag was raised on Sunny Beach on July 4, 1995.
