Regional Development Minister Ivan Ivanov will attend a ministerial meeting of the OECD Regional Development Policy Committee in Warsaw on May 19-20, his Ministry said on Monday. The meeting will focus on strengthening regional policy.
The forum will discuss how to implement regional development policies to enhance competitiveness and promote balanced and sustainable development in different types of regions and geographies. Issues related to building resilience to global change in regions, cities and rural areas and managing demographic change in the long term will be addressed.
During the two-day meeting, ministers will discuss solutions to common implementation obstacles, including governance arrangements, territorial and institutional reforms, public and private finance, fiscal mechanisms and capacity building.
Minister Ivanov will be one of the three keynote speakers in the session on managing demographic change for long-term sustainability, which will be held within the forum. The focus will be on ensuring access to services and infrastructure in both growing and shrinking regions, as well as the challenges of fiscal sustainability, population ageing and spatial planning.
During his visit to Warsaw, the Regional Minister will also take part in an informal meeting of EU ministers responsible for cohesion policy, territorial cohesion and urban affairs on May 21. Participants are expected to adopt a joint declaration outlining a common vision for the development of cohesion policy with a focus on its territorial dimension.
