Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh Thursday met with Julia Simpson, President and CEO of the World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC). WTTC is the largest international organization representing the private tourism sector, with over 200 leading global companies among its members.

The two discussed possible ways for strategic partnership between Bulgaria and WTTC, along with joint initiatives to promote tourism in Bulgaria. The possible organization of an international investment forum on medical, spa and wellness tourism was high on the agenda, the Tourism Ministry said.

Borshosh said: "Bulgaria has an exceptionally rich variety of mineral waters, established specialists and universities with a strong tradition in this field. We have all the prerequisites to become one of the leading destinations for health tourism."

In the wake of the Covid pandemic, global interest in medical, spa and wellness tourism has increased significantly. Simpson confirmed that demand in this sector is sustainable, and there is considerable interest among WTTC members in investing in new destinations.

Borshosh and Simpson also discussed the WTTC's programmes for sustainability and the opportunities for using data and analytics for strategic planning and tourism development at national and regional levels.
