The government continues to seek a workable option for an agreement with the representatives of the protesting farmers that is acceptable to all parties. This became clear after the meeting of Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, Minister of Agriculture and Food Kiril Vatev with the farmers on Wednesday evening at the Council of Ministers, the government press office said.

Prime Minister Denkov was adamant that only grain growers who are losing money would be supported. The negotiations will continue on Friday afternoon.

While tax returns are the surest way to prove profits and losses, Cabinet is prepared to accept a simplified statement of costs and revenues to speed up the process and ensure farms receive the extra aid as soon as possible, the statement said.

At the meeting, the parties also agreed on BGN 150 million in support for the meat, dairy, fruit and vegetable, honey, oilseed rose, tobacco and vineyard sectors.

The protests continue, the chairman of the National Association of Grain Producers Iliya Prodanov told BTA after the meeting.

According to Prodanov, the grain growers have disagreements on some of the points of the Memorandum, which are to be discussed.
