The State Fund for Agriculture (SFA) paid BGN 65,517,995 under the exceptional financial assistance scheme for sunflower. The funds have been paid to 11,550 sunflower farmers following administrative checks by the SFA and the National Revenue Agency to verify the absence of outstanding obligations under Article 87(1) of the Tax and Social Insurance Procedure Code.
Aid was granted to farmers registered for 2022 and 2023 and whose sunflower fields were eligible for support for the 2022 campaign under the single area payment scheme.
The aid rate of BGN 78.33/ha, set by order of the Minister for Agriculture and Food, has been increased to BGN 79.51/ha after reallocation of the resource among eligible applicants.
The increase comes after a two-day nationwide protest that included grain growers and agricultural processors provoked by the lifting of a ban on Ukrainian food imports by the Bulgarian Parliament on September 14.
