The regulation on the labelling and packaging of essential oil products needs to be revised very precisely, said Maria Spyraki, MEP and rapporteur for the examination of the Regulation on classification, labelling and packaging of chemicals on Tuesday during a conference in Kazanlak, Central Bulgaria. She stressed that the safety of consumers should be guaranteed alongside the growth of the sector and the preservation of jobs.

She expressed her expectation that by the end of 2023, the first reading vote will be passed, after which there will be a procedure to reach a compromise.

"It is extremely positive that we can count on the entire Bulgarian delegation in the European Parliament", Spyraki said. In her words, in addition to consumer protection, we need to make sure that we produce more European essential oil, export more and develop the sector. This is extremely important not only for Bulgaria, but also for Spain, Italy and Greece, Spyraki stressed. According to her, this is the sector that contributes a lot to the value chain in Europe, which makes it important not only for those who extract the raw material, but also for all those in the backward chain who create employment and gross domestic product in Europe.

The potential impact of the changes to the CLP Regulation and the Chemicals Strategy on the perfume industry is the focus of an international conference that has started in Kazanlak.
