In 2024, Bulgaria recorded a marginal increase in the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption compared with 2023, rising by 0.06 percentage points to 23.21%, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) reported on its website on Friday.

NSI data show that in 2023 the annual increase was significantly higher, with the share of renewable energy rising by 3.51 percentage points to 22.55%.

By sector, the share of renewable energy in 2024 increased compared with 2023, with the largest growth recorded in electricity generated from renewable sources, up by 4.14 percentage points to 33.84%. This was followed by renewable energy in transport fuels, which rose by 0.11 percentage points to 8.20%.

Renewable energy used for heating and cooling declined compared with 2023 - a year that saw a significant increase, falling by 1.87 percentage points to a share of 34.19%.
