Burgas Airport is set to enhance its air connectivity with France through a new route operated by Spanish low-cost carrier Volotea and connecting Lille and Burgas, Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, the airport's concessionaire, said on Thursday. The first flight is scheduled for May 27, 2026, with one weekly frequency every Wednesday.
With this new service, Burgas Airport becomes the second airport in Bulgaria served by Volotea. The new route will support the development of tourism along Bulgaria’s Southern Black Sea coast by attracting more visitors from the French market. It will also provide convenient travel opportunities for Bulgarian tourists and the Bulgarian diaspora in France, the Burgas Airport's concessionaire noted.
Michael Reusch, CEO of Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD, commented: "We are delighted to strengthen our connectivity with France by welcoming Volotea to Burgas Airport. Even while we are investing heavily in the construction of our new runway, we continue to work actively with our airline partners to expand our route network. The new Lille to Burgas service is a strong signal of confidence in the destination and in the long-term development of the region."
Valeria Rebasti, International Market Director at Volotea, said: "We are very happy to start operating at Burgas Airport with this new seasonal route from Lille. This direct connection will strengthen links between France and Bulgaria, supporting tourism to the Southern Black Sea coast and offering Bulgarian travelers a new, convenient option to reach Northern France."
The Lille to Burgas route was last available in 2023. Since early November, Burgas Airport has been temporarily closed for a full runway renovation. Flights are scheduled to resume in April 2026. The project is part of the concessionaire’s investment of more than EUR 50 million, aimed at enhancing safety and preparing the airport for year-round operations.
