site.btaState to Provide Up to BGN 30 Mln in Loan Guarantees for Students and PhD Candidates in 2026

The government on Wednesday approved a state guarantee of up to BGN 30 million for student and PhD loans in 2026. The programme aims to expand access to higher education, allowing citizens of Bulgaria, other EU Member States, countries in the European Economic Area and Switzerland to apply for bank loans.

Next year, a total of 138,170 full-time students and 2,489 doctoral students at 38 state-owned and 14 private universities in Bulgaria will be eligible to benefit from the loans. The government has signed standard lending agreements with six banks to facilitate the programme.
