Sofia Philharmonic Director, maestro Nayden Todorov, is serving as Chair of the international jury at the Ferenc Fricsay International Conducting Competition (IFFCC) for young conductors from around the world, taking place in Szeged, Hungary, from August 31 to September 7, the Philharmonic said in a press release on Sunday. The 2025 edition marks the second staging of IFFCC.
As Chair of the jury, Todorov sets the criteria for artistry and professionalism to be applied in evaluating the young contestants in the prestigious competition, the Sofia Philharmonic added.
The jury also includes leading figures in the global classical music scene, among them: Heiko M. Forster, Chief Conductor of the Baden-Baden Philharmonic; Sandor Gyudi, Music Director of the Hungarian National Symphony Orchestra; Lucius Hemmer, Artistic Director of the Nuremberg Symphony Orchestra; Alevtina Ioffe, Chief Conductor of the Bern Symphony Orchestra; Kirill Karabits, Chief Conductor of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra; Konstantin Orbelian, Music Director of the New York City Opera Orchestra; and Adam Stadnicki, Artistic Director and General Manager of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.
The competition is named after Hungarian conductor Ferenc Fricsay (1914-1963) and seeks to discover a new generation of musical leaders. The winners will not only receive awards but also invitations to perform with prestigious orchestras, including the Sofia Philharmonic.
