site.btaVillage of Zafirovo to Host Third Colours of Ethnicities Folklore Festival on Sept. 6

On September 6, the village of Zafirovo in Silistra Region, Northeast Bulgaria, will host the third edition of the folklore festival Colours of Ethnicities, the local chitalishte community centre Hristo Botev-1901 told BTA. The event is organized by the community centre in cooperation with the municipal administration.
The festival date was chosen deliberately, the organizers said. On September 6, 1916, one of the fiercest battles on the northern front of WWI between Bulgarians and Romanians took place on the village’s territory. Following the Bulgarian victory, led by General Atila Zafirov, the village, then called Sarsunlar, was renamed Zafirovo in his honour in 1942.
The festival will be non-competitive, with all participants receiving a certificate and commemorative plaque. The programme will feature authentic and arranged folklore singing, folk dances, and solo performances. Vocal groups may present up to two songs, dance groups up to two dances, while solo performers will be limited to six minutes.
The event will bring together amateur ensembles and individual performers of all ages and ethnic backgrounds – Bulgarian, Turkish, Roma, Armenian, and Vlach. It aims to use folklore as a platform for sharing traditions and fostering respect for cultural diversity.
