The exhibition Kaleidoscope of Time by Mincho Panayotov (1944–2025) opens at Kapana Gallery in Plovdiv on September 5, the organizers said Friday. Planned as a major celebration of the artist’s 80th anniversary, it is the last collection of paintings Panayotov was able to prepare before his recent death.
According to the organizers, the project was conceived as a festive retrospective in honour of the artist’s 80th birthday, who passed away only recently.
This is the last painting exhibition that Panayotov organized during his lifetime, although he passed away before its opening.
The organizers note that a separate exhibition of Panayotov’s graphic works will also open the same day at the Society of Plovdiv Artists Gallery.
Both exhibitions will be presented precisely as the artist intended, according to the organizers, who cited Panayotov’s words: “Art does not require sacrifice. It demands presence.”
“He continued to paint until the very end. His last finished work, titled Borderline States, is dated June 30, 2025,” the organizers said.
Mincho Panayotov, born in Panaretovtsi, Sliven region, graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts at Veliko Tarnovo University in 1971. He worked in painting, graphic art, and illustration, and was a member of the Union of Bulgarian Artists and the Society of Plovdiv Artists, receiving awards from both organizations. Panayotov held over 60 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and abroad and participated in numerous group shows. His works are held in major Bulgarian museums and galleries, as well as in international collections across Europe, the USA, Japan, and other countries.
