The humanism of the 21st century requires us not only to be human, but also to defend human rights and the dignity of every individual said the director of the St. St. Cyril and Methodius National Library, Associate Professor Kalina Ivanova. She made this statement on Wednesday at the opening of the photo exhibition The Eyes of War, which is dedicated to the third anniversary of Russian aggression against Ukraine.
Organized by the National Library and the Embassy of Poland in Sofia, the exhibition presents works by Polish photographers reflecting on the war in Ukraine. It is curated by Eva Maisner, a photographer and photo editor who has co-authored several photographic publications. The exhibition's graphic design is by Iwona El Tanbuli-Jablonska, a Polish designer who has worked with National Geographic Polska.
Those attending the online opening included Irina Biryukova, Director of the National Scientific Library in Odesa, Jaroslaw Wlodarczyk, Secretary General of the International Press Club Association, Magdalena Rigamonti, a journalist who wrote the accompanying descriptions of military experiences, and Maciej Stanik, one of the featured photographers. Those present at the opening presentation included the Ukrainian Ambassador to Bulgaria, Olesya Ilashchuk; the German Ambassador, Irene Maria Plank; and the Indian Ambassador, Arun Kumar Sahu.
According to Anna Janiszewska-Fronczek, the Deputy Ambassador and First Counsellor of the Polish Embassy in Sofia, the works in the exhibition reflect exceptional courage and demonstrate sensitivity, along with excellent journalistic creativity.
