Education Minister Krasimir Valchev laid flowers at the monument to Ivan Vazov to mark the 175th anniversary of the birth of the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature, his ministry said.
“A writer, poet, playwright, public figure, and statesman — the Patriarch of Bulgarian literature is among those who had the greatest influence on shaping our national identity in the years following the Liberation,” Minister Valchev said. He emphasized that Ivan Vazov’s works laid the foundations of the modern Bulgarian literary language — the language we are proud of and that unites us as a nation.
