During the parliamentary debate on the report on BTA's activities and finances in 2024 here on Friday, Dimitar Nikolov MP of GERB-UDF said: “It would not be an overstatement if we say that BTA is the most dynamically developing public service media in recent years.”

BTA is part of the national security system, because fake news is part of the arsenal of hybrid attacks, he added. The national news agency performs the functions of the Air Force in the information segment, it protects the public from disinformation, Nikolov said.

“If years ago we said that BTA was a school, now we can safely say that BTA is an academy for journalists,” he said. “However, the truth is that journalism is no longer a prestigious profession,” Nikolov added. “If we are looking for a sustainable income policy in public media, we should think in the medium term about tying salaries to the education sector, because the challenge facing public media is not only to inform, but also to educate and train,” the MP of GERB-UDF said.
