Minister Marian Bachev opened the Bulgarian pavilion at the Venice Biennale for Architecture - 2025, the Culture Ministry said in a press release on Friday.

The ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister of Culture Alexander Staynov, State Expert at the Ministry of Culture, the Director of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute in Rome, Italy, Ilia Lozanov, Arch. Martin Hristov, Deputy President of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria.

This year Bulgaria is among the 66 countries participating with national pavilions. After its presentation here in 2008 and 2023, this is the third participation of our country in the most prestigious forum for architecture, which this year takes place from May 10 to November 23.

The theme of this year's Biennale is the different dimensions of intelligence - natural, artificial, collective - calling on the global architectural community to propose effective and quick-to-achieve solutions in response to the challenges of climate change and population evolution.

The Bulgarian pavilion at the 19th edition of the Venice Biennale of Architecture - 2025 presents the project “Pseudonature” by architect Iassen Markov. It is an experimental installation on the border between nature and technology, which questions the future of sustainability in a world where natural processes are increasingly influenced by artificial intelligence and human intervention.

"To represent your country at one of the most prestigious cultural events in the world - the Venice Biennale for Architecture - is an honour, but also a commitment that goes beyond architecture. It is an opportunity to declare how we think, what we value and how we see the future. The Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Bulgaria has a long-standing commitment to our country's participation in the prestigious Biennale and is proud to support this initiative. In this sense, funding and institutional support are part of our efforts to defend the place of contemporary Bulgarian culture on the international stage - not as a periphery, but as an active voice in the global cultural conversation." With these words Minister Bachev opened the Bulgarian pavilion at the Biennale and thanked the curatorial team, the architects and artists, all the artists and supporters who have worked to ensure that Bulgaria is worthy of being represented at the 19th edition of the most prestigious world forum for architecture. Minister Bachev expressed his satisfaction with the great interest in the Bulgarian pavilion and with the fact that in its preliminary ranking one of the leading specialized publications for architecture placed the Bulgarian project in the top five must-see projects.

The big winners of the 19th edition of the Venice Biennale of Architecture - 2025 will be announced on May 10 during the official opening ceremony, when the organizers will hand out the Golden Lions for national and international participation, and the Silver Lion for promising young participant.
