The cultural-historical complex "Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet" in Pliska celebrated its 10th anniversary on Friday. The ceremony was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Atanas Zafirov, Minister of Education Krasimir Valchev, regional governors, MPs, Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) Director General Kiril Valchev, mayors and municipal councilors.

Father Andrey officiated a prayer service. He stressed the importance of the work of St. Tsar Boris-Mihail and called for May 2, when the Bulgarian Orthodox Church honors the saint, to become an official holiday in Bulgaria.

Flowers and wreaths were laid at the monument to St. Tsar Boris-Mihail in the "Yard of the Cyrillic Alphabet". A symbolic torch of knowledge was handed over by Education Minister Krasimir Valchev to three schools in the region. Minister Valchev said that it was an honour and a joy for him to be there, where Bulgaria began. He noted that there is so much of the Bulgarian spirit, culture and faith there and it is difficult for him to mention everything in a few words. Valchev congratulated all the students and teachers for their performances.

At 6:00 p.m., a prayer service will be officiated in the courtyard of the Great Basilica of Pliska by Patriarch Daniil. He will also attend a festive concert in the courtyard of the Great Basilica at 7:00 pm. The organizer of the celebrations on the occasion of the 1160th anniversary of the conversion of the Bulgarian people and the 1170th anniversary of the Bulgarian alphabet is the Metropolitanate of Varna and Veliki Preslav.
