A total of 32,100 dwellings were registered for construction in new buildings in Austria in 2024, data from Statistics Austria show.

This marks an 8.5% decline compared to 2023 and represents the lowest number of permits granted since 2010, according to market analysts.

Austria is expected to complete 25,200 homes this year, down from the 46,000 completed three years ago.

Vienna issued the highest number of building permits for apartments last year. Excluding permits for apartment conversions, the Austrian capital approved the construction of 9,145 new residential units.
