The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) provided the LIK typeface to the State Institute for Culture with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs here on Thursday. The two institutions represented by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and State Institute for Culture Director Snezhana Yoveva-Dimitrova respectively renewed their cooperation agreement, which was originally signed in 2021.
At the event, Valchev said: "We have had a contract [with the Institute for Culture with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs] since April 2021, which marked the beginning of systematic receipt of information with copyrighted materials – copyrighted photos, videos, other text materials."
He noted that over the years BTA has covered various initiatives of the Institute in both Bulgarian and in English. The new agreement confirms that BTA will be a media partner for the events marking the Institute's 20th anniversary.
Valchev emphasized that both BTA and the Institute both have a calling to present Bulgaria to the world. He added that the renewed partnership will facilitate this process and reported that this latest cooperation agreement is BTA's 64th.
Yoveva-Dimitrova received from Valchev a copy of the June 2005 edition of the LIK magazine, which was dedicated to Bulgaria's cultural heritage that travelled the world. She also received a medal and a postage stamp commemorating BTA's 125th anniversary.
Valchev said: "Today is the day of the Last Supper, which contains a message to communicate with one another, just as Jesus gathered his first apostles. And on this day, the Eucharist was established. The word Eucharist itself comes from the Greek word for thanksgiving. It is a good day to say that we should be thankful. Those of us who are called to share Bulgaria with the world should feel grateful to have been born in such a beautiful place, with so many stories worth telling."
Yoveva-Dimitrova reported that the centre for contemporary arts Toplocentrala in Sofia will host an exhibition entitled High Voices and added: "With this exhibition, which bears this emblematic title, we are saying that we are here, we are part of the whole process of cultural diplomacy and cooperation between the structures that are in our country [...]"
BTA commissioned a new typeface from the National Academy of Art and received it in February 2025. The typeface, based on the alphabet drafted by the holy brothers Cyril and Methodius in Bulgaria back in the 9th century, has been registered with the Patent Office. It is freely available for use by all public institutions of the country in the name of achieving a unified image.
