A photo exhibition in Silistra will honour the memory of local photographer and public figure Petko Gerasimov, who died earlier this week, his family said.

Today Gerasimov's relatives will open an exhibition of his photographs in the foyer of the town’s Drama Theatre. There will be an urn for donations in support for local social and cultural initiatives.

Petko Gerasimov is a photographer with over 50 years of practice. He has participated in hundreds of photography events, photo vacations, competitions and exhibitions. Using an 8mm camera, he helped to make some of the most successful contemporary Bulgarian films. In his hometown of Silistra he created photo clubs and organized international photo exhibitions and plein air events.

He was the founder and administrator of the "Stara Silistra" website. It contains archival documents, photographs, engravings, paintings, lithographs and other images from the past of Silistra, by Bulgarian and foreign travellers and artists. Many of these were purchased by Gerasimov with personal funds so that the people of Silistra could be proud of the history of their home town.
