The 9th CineLibri International Book and Movie Festival opens in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Veliko Tarnovo, Gabrovo and Stara Zagora on Friday evening. This year's edition, which will be on until October 29, is mottoed "Metamorphoses" in tribute to Franz Kafka's 140th birth anniversary.

In Sofia, the festival will open with a music and visual show accompanied by a live performance by maestro Jivko Petrov. CineLibri Director Jacqueline Wagenstein will address the audience. Also on the programme for the opening evening is the Bulgarian premiere of  Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, a book adaptation that won the Golden Lion prize at the Venice Film Festival.

Other film premieres on the festival's programme include Bertrand Bonello's Beast (October 7), Milena Fuchedjieva's documentary Weimar Express (October 8), Laetitia Colombani's The Braid (October 9), and Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon (October 14).

On October 10, CineLibri will welcome two special guests: British producer and screenwriter Michael Downey and Albanian film director Fatmir Koci. Downey will present his literary debut, the adventure-mystery Istria Gold, at the National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts in Sofia.
