Bulgarian writer Georgi Gospodinov will pay a visit to Belgrade on Tuesday to present his novel Time Shelter as part of the autumn programme of the Booking Balkan Festival, the local television channel, N1, reported. The meeting will be attended by Serbian writer and translator Vladislav Bajac, who is also the founder and editor-in-chief of the Geopoetika publishing house, which published Gospodinov’s debut novel Natural Novel, as well as his most recent one, Time Shelter.
Time Shelter brought the International Booker Prize for 2023 for Gospodinov and his English translator, Angela Rodel.
According to Bajac, the publication of Gospodinov's debut novel Natural Novel in Serbia in 2001 was the first publication of a work of fiction by the Bulgarian author in a foreign language.
"If the publication of Geopoetika back then, however symbolically, heralded the worldwide success of this talented author (publishing other works of fiction as well), the publishing mission has been accomplished. Even prior to Time Shelter, the sky was the only limit for Gospodinov in both imagination and reality," he said.
