An exhibition of photos and documents on women’s participation in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 was displayed in Taraclia on Monday. The event was dedicated to Victory Day, May 9, and was organized by the Russian Historical and Patriotic Club public organization from Chisinau.
The photos and documents tell the stories of ten female soldiers who took part in the defence and liberation of Moldova from Fascism in 1941-1944. Among them was nurse Maya Serebryak, buried on the territory of Taraclia and commemorated every year in front of her monument in the city. The exhibition also presents the Moldova-born women who contributed to Europe’s liberation from Fascism as well as nurse Zinaida Smirnova, who was awarded the Florence Nightingale medal in 1971.
The exhibition’s main goal is to teach patriotism and love for the fatherland – Moldova – as well as broaden pupils’ knowledge of WWII events, particularly those which occurred on the territory of today’s Republic of Moldova, Russian Historical and Patriotic Club head Alexei Petrovic told BTA. At the exhibition venue, he told pupils from local schools about the heroines in the exhibits’ focus.
After the talk, the pupils watched a film about Ivan Soltis.
