“The Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) will rely on support from the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association in the implementation of the project “The World of News,” which we are now launching under a contract with the Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works. Part of this project involves a comprehensive renovation, including energy-efficient upgrades, of the BTA building, built in the early 1960s, which is among Sofia’s landmarks,” said BTA Director General Kiril Valchev during the signing on Tuesday of a media partnership agreement between the Bulgarian News Agency and the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association at the BTA National Press Club in Sofia. The agreement was signed by BTA Director General Kiril Valchev and the Chair of the BPA Management Board, Meglena Rusenova.

Valchev explained that part of the project involves installing a photovoltaic system on the roof of the BTA building, which the Agency wants to implement in the best possible way and with maximum transparency. “We will rely on the Association to assist us with expertise, and we will include an expert nominated by the Association both in the preparation of the public procurement procedure, which we are about to announce very soon, so that its parameters ensure there is no discrimination against any company,” Valchev said.

He commented that given the fact that the Association has 400 members, it has an interest in public procurement procedures in Bulgaria being structured in this way and in achieving the best possible outcome, so that this project can serve as an example of European projects implemented in Bulgaria. Valchev also said that BTA will rely on the promotion of the tender through the Association’s channels so that as many companies as possible, the best in the sector, take part, because, as he said, there are usually much larger contracts that attract greater interest, but in this case it concerns a truly symbolic project for Sofia.

The Bulgarian News Agency’s project “The World of News ” is receiving European funding under the Regional Development Programme.

For her part, Meglena Rusenova said that signing a partnership agreement with BTA is a natural step in the process of their already established relationship. “We have always relied on BTA to cover the Association’s events. Every press conference in which we have sought strong public support and greater attention to investments in our sector has been held precisely at BTA,” she noted.

Rusenova also recalled the jointly shared information via BTA about Bulgaria, disseminated to news agencies in Europe and around the world, of the good news that in 2025 there was the first day on which energy produced by solar power plants in Bulgaria dominated all other electricity producers in the country, the first 24-hour period in which energy generated by photovoltaics in the country was significant and prevailed over conventional sources.

Rusenova said that the Bulgarian Photovoltaic Association views the signing of the agreement with BTA as an opportunity for the sector, which is the fastest-growing segment of the Bulgarian economy and attracted the most significant investments in 2024 and 2025. “We hope that with the implementation of large-scale investments in energy storage systems and photovoltaic power plants, 2026 will be one of the most successful years for investments in the renewable energy sector and in the segment of photovoltaic power plants and energy storage systems. Together with BTA, we will have the opportunity for our partnership to reflect this good news about investments in renewable energy,” she said.
