site.btaDonka Angatscheva to Perform in Sofia with Bosendorfer Grand Piano
Pianist Donka Angatscheva will arrive in Sofia for her concert with the Sofia Philharmonic orchestra, accompanied by a Bosendorfer grand piano, the organizers said on Monday. The concert is scheduled for January 22.
According to them, Angatscheva is part of the prestigious circle of artists associated with the renowned piano maker, alongside legendary pianists such as Andras Schiff, Christoph Eschenbach, Rudolf Buchbinder, Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Tori Amos and Peter Gabriel.
In Sofia, Angatscheva will perform Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Piano Concerto No. 23 in A major, KV 488, under the baton of Maestro Johannes Kalitzke. The programme also includes Arnold Schoenberg’s symphonic poem Pelleas und Melisande, Op. 5.
Donka Angatscheva was born on January 1, 1979, in Plovdiv. She holds a Master’s degree from the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and completed further specialization at the prestigious Queen Elisabeth College of Music in Brussels. She has worked with many leading orchestras and appeared on major international stages, including the Golden Hall of the Musikverein, the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Tonhalle Zurich. She has released nine CDs. For more than eight years, she has taught at the Vienna Conservatory and has led masterclasses at universities in Europe and South America. In 2023, she was named Woman of the Year by the Austrian magazine Look. Since 2025, she has been curator of the Bosendorfer Klavierwelten concert series and President of the International Frederic Chopin Society in Vienna. In 2025, she was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honour for Services to the Republic of Austria.
Johannes Kalitzke is a Cologne-born conductor and composer, trained in church music and at IRCAM in Paris. He is co-founder and artistic director of Ensemble Musikfabrik, has worked with leading European orchestras and opera houses, appears regularly at major festivals, and tours internationally. He is Professor of Conducting at the Mozarteum University Salzburg and recipient of the Bernd Alois Zimmermann Prize.
