site.btaPresiyan Kuzov Wins Young Directors’ Prize at Balkan Theatre Festival
Presiyan Kuzov was named this year’s winner of the young directors’ competition, part of the Balkan Theatre Festival, the Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre in Blagoevgrad said on Thursday. Kuzov won the competition with his project based on the play The Great Brilliant Waltz by Drago Jancar.
A jury comprising Plamen Markov, Ina Bozhidarova, and Nikola Vaptsarov Drama Theatre director Margarita Macheva unanimously decided to give Kuzov the opportunity to stage his project at the theatre.
The annual competition, held during the festival, allows professional directors under 35 and final-year students to present their stage projects through table readings with actors.
Last year, Rostislav Georgiev won the competition and directed The Marriage by Gogol at the Blagoevgrad theatre, which drew strong audience interest. Georgiev was later named a rising star at the Askeer Awards for his work on The Marriage. Aleksandar Mitov, an actor from the Blagoevgrad troupe, received an Askeer nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Baltazar Baltazarovich Zhevakin in The Marriage.
The fourth edition of the Balkan Theatre Festival runs until November 7.
