Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev, who is also Commander-in-Chief, addressed the cadets of the Class of 2025, specializing in Medical Support for the Armed Forces at the Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy, during their commissioning as lieutenants at the Military Medical Academy on Saturday.
"Your specialization was created at a time when no one in Europe expected a full-scale war to break out on our continent, when thousands of lives would be lost and there would be a severe shortage of military medical personnel," Radev said.
Radev noted that the initiative, taken eight years ago by the leadership of the Military Medical Academy, the Naval Academy and the Medical University – Varna, has proved to be foresighted. "Thanks to this decision, Bulgaria today has reliable young officers who strengthen the country's military medical capabilities," he said.
The President stressed the innovative training and education provided, as well as the modern scientific, educational and social infrastructure supporting the programme.
"You have taken an oath as defenders of the nation and the Hippocratic Oath, committing yourselves to the highest human values. Today, you assume a dual responsibility - that of a Bulgarian officer and of a military doctor, a responsibility that will be measured every day by the health and lives of servicemen and your dedication to the nation," the President told the cadets.
