Тhe next regular meeting of the Burgas Municipal Council will be decisive for the future of the area on the site of the former Kolodrum velodrome in Burgas, the six investment companies developing projects on the site said in Monday.
A proposed exchange of their properties by a group of municipal councilors was already refused categorically by the investment companies, who have submitted an alternative proposal, namely a new donation of over 0.3 hectares, which together with previously provided areas will increase the terrain for municipal needs to more than 0.6 hectares. "We count on the municipal councilors to show responsibility and goodwill. Our proposal is transparent and aimed at improving living conditions in the neighborhood and in the entire city," commented Dimitar Kolev, Executive Director of the joint-stock company Sariel AD.
The project for the development of Kolodrum envisages the construction of a new street network, modern residential and public spaces, with an emphasis on ecological and sustainable architectural solutions, including large-scale landscaping and sufficient parking spaces. As part of the project, the construction of several 16-storey buildings, as well as a sports hall, is planned. According to the project, the buildings will include natural materials and vertical landscaping. The initiative combines public interest and private investment, the owners of the six separate plots on which construction is planned said, who stressed that Burgas municipal councilors must decide whether to accept the donation and whether they approve the start of the project at their regular meeting at the end of October.
The Kolodrum velodrome in Burgas consists of an area of about 8 hectares, which are owned by six private companies. Since 2005, several companies have developed plans for residential construction on the site, but construction never came to fruition. The place has not been used for a cycling track since the mid-1990s, but it remains known among Burgas residents by that name. Around 2000, the competition and training tracks were converted into a parking lot. Only the service premises of the Burgas Cycling Club were preserved, which were eventually demolished at the end of 2020.
