There is no danger to either Bulgarian or foreign tourists in the Black Sea resorts affected by recent severe weather, Bulgaria’s Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh announced on Friday. His statement followed a deadly natural disaster that struck the coastal region.
One person was confirmed dead in the resort area of Elenite, and recovery efforts are ongoing. Three Polish tourists were rescued from a life-threatening situation, thanks to the rapid response of the Interior Ministry and the Bulgarian Army, the minister said.
Borshosh has ordered a full investigation into the construction permits and building practices in the affected resort areas, particularly to determine whether poor planning or illegal development may have contributed to the disaster. The review, led by the regional governor of Burgas and the local construction oversight authority, will assess whether the damage was caused by an uncontrollable natural disaster or potential failings by local authorities.
