The parliamentary group of Velichie party calls for dissolution of Parliament. "We will not take part in this circus. We support the dissolution of this illegitimate National Assembly," Velichie leader Ivelin Mihaylov said as Parliament opened its autumn session Wednesday.
"This government was elected through the most rigged elections in Bulgaria’s history. It is illegitimate and is leading to the destruction of the Bulgarian people," he said. "We are strongly opposed to any resolution made by this National Assembly — every decision adopted only serves to blind the public and steal money, by parties that are supposedly in power or in opposition, but are in fact in perfect collusion," Mihaylov added.
"The current situation at the start of this new parliamentary session reminds me of December 1989, in Romania, where dictator Ceausescu had full control over the security services, the police, the army, the media, and the state apparatus," Mihaylov continued. He drew a parallel to a speech by Ceausescu, in which the dictator claimed everything was fine and that there was work for all — a view completely detached from public sentiment — and whose fate, he noted, was tragic.
Mihaylov listed issues with water supply, livestock farming, and what he called "destroyed jobs". According to him, the country is ruled by "arbitrariness and totalitarianism at the hands of a few individuals who see themselves as masters of the nation, just because they control part of the security services, part of the police, and part of the administration."
"Why adopt laws if they’re not going to be enforced? Why should the National Assembly pass a law if the court issues a ruling and the executive branch refuses to comply with it?" Mihaylov asked. In his words, people know "that those gathered in the plenary hall have been putting on an expensive show for the past 15–16 years — and it’s not even particularly well-acted."
