The new parliamentary season officially opened Wednesday to the sound of the national anthem and the EU anthem.

The MPs were on recess from August 1 to 31.

There were 210 deputies in the chamber. Chair Nataliya Kiselova announced that there was quorum and opened the sitting.

As the EU anthem played and all other MPS stood still, the MPs of the national Vazrazhdane remained seated.

In her opening remarks, Chair Nataliya Kiselova called on lawmakers to recognize the gravity of their responsibility to the citizens. "My appeal to each and every one of you, the representatives of the people in this chamber, is to be fully aware of the responsibility we all bear to the Bulgarian citizens," Kiselova said as quoted by the parliamentary press office. She outlined the key challenges facing the country, including social inequality, an ineffective justice system, corruption, demographic decline, unequal access to healthcare, and the lack of opportunities for development outside major cities.

Kiselova also warned against exploiting civic discontent for political gain, noting that public apathy toward politics is at a critical level. "The enormous civic energy that has been expressed through protests demands concrete solutions and accountability, not party arithmetic or calculations about how this affects approval ratings," she stated. "Politics is not about preserving the ratings of party projects or leaders. It’s not a game of exploiting people’s fears—it requires responsibility, integrity, and real answers to real problems."
