The Ministry of Economy and Industry is cooperating with other state institutions to secure a smooth eurozone entry as of January 1, 2026, Deputy Minister Doncho Barbalov said here Tuesday. He underscored the importance of the euro adoption as a key priority for this country. Barbalov was speaking at the opening of an information campaign for the euro changeover, which took place in the Black Sea city of Burgas in the presence of Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, Transport Minister Grozdan Karadjov, Finance Minister Temenuzhka Petkova, Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov, Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh, central bank Governor Dimitar Radev, the head of the European Commission representation in Bulgaria, Yordanka Chobanova, and Burgas Mayor Dimitar Nikolov.

Barbalov highlighted that switching from the lev to the euro is a complex process requiring cooperation across Government and society. The Ministry works closely with institutions like the Consumer Protection Commission, Ministry of Finance, and Financial Supervision Commission to ensure a transparent and fair transition, he said.

Key priorities for the Ministry include clear dual pricing in leva and euros, strict rules on currency conversion and rounding, and monitoring prices of essential goods to prevent unfair hikes. Large retailers with revenues over BGN 10 million must publish daily prices to ensure transparency, the Deputy Minister said.
