The Ministry of Health (MoH) is introducing an electronic system for the distribution, ordering, dispensing, and reporting of vaccines for mandatory and targeted immunizations and re-immunizations, the Мinistry’s press center announced on Friday.
The system will create a unified environment for information exchange between the MoH, the regional health inspectorates, and medical facilities implementing the immunization schedule. It will allow each doctor to order vaccines remotely, monitor stock by batch number and expiration date, and receive automatically generated summary reports of completed immunizations, the Мinistry said. The introduction of the electronic system eliminates a number of current obligations for doctors, such as preparing annual plans and submitting paper-based reports. Starting September 1, the requirement to keep a book of preventive immunizations, as well as to record data in immunization passports and personal outpatient records, will also be removed, the MoH added.
Amendments to Ordinance No. 15 on Immunizations in the Republic of Bulgaria, published in Friday's issue of the State Gazette, aim to reduce the administrative burden on general practitioners. The MoH has sent a letter to the Bulgarian Medical Association with detailed information about the changes and the new functionalities of the electronic system.
A few days ago, the MoH also presented its new mobile application, MedicinePrice, which provides citizens with up-to-date information on medicine prices in Bulgaria.
