Military Medical Academy (MMA) Varna has completed the renovation of seven operating theatres that meet current standards for safety, efficiency and precision, the MMA press service said here on Monday.

The theatres are built on the model of more than 30 similar rooms at the MMA central hospital in Sofia, which sets the standard for modern surgical treatment.

The new facilities are part of the leadership's long-term strategy to modernize all military hospitals nationwide and to raise standards in technological equipment, in line with the professionalism of the clinicians working in these facilities.

In 2024, more than 5,200 surgical procedures were performed at the Naval Hospital in Varna, reflecting the scale of activity and patient trust, with access to specialists in general surgery, thoracic surgery, urology, gynaecology, orthopaedics and traumatology, gastroenterology, and the Clinic of Thermal Trauma, Plastic-Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, the only one of its kind in Eastern Bulgaria.

With a modern base, a strategic vision and a high level of medical expertise, MMA said it has consolidated its position as a leading institution in highly specialized and integrated medical care.

BTA notes that in early August, specialists from the MMA took part in an information campaign run by the State Agency for Child Protection on the harms of using vape devices and nitrous oxide (laughing gas). As part of the initiative, leading toxicologists from MMA clinics in Sofia and Varna spoke with hundreds of schoolchildren about the effects on the body of so-called designer drugs.
