site.btaFire Breaks Out in Harmanli, Spreads towards Villa Area


A wildfire broke out in Harmanli, South Central Bulgaria, on Saturday afternoon, posing a threat to the town’s hospital, stadium, and villa area, Mayor Maria Kirkova told the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). According to initial reports, the fire originated near a local scrapyard.
Eight firefighting teams were deployed to the scene, supported by municipal employees, forestry officials, and volunteers. Flames spread towards an area just above the town’s stadium and hospital, moving toward the villa area.
Several yards and farm buildings in the villa area burned down, the Haskovo Regional Administration reported, noting that there is no threat to the local population.
The situation has been brought under control, Haskovo Regional Governor Stefka Zdravkova said. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage are yet to be determined, according to a post on the Harmanli Municipality's Facebook page.
