site.btaTwo Romanian Nationals Injured in Crash near Mishemorkov Han to Be Airlifted Home


One of the drivers, a Romanian national, involved in the three-car collision at the Pass of the Republic near Mishemorkov Han on Friday morning has tested positive for drugs, according to a statement by the Regional Directorate of the Interior Ministry in Veliko Tarnovo. A chemical analysis sample has been taken to confirm the result.
The crash involved a total of three vehicles, two of which were driven by Romanian nationals. All three drivers were tested for alcohol at the scene, and all alcohol tests returned negative.
In total, ten people were injured in the accident and taken to the Emergency Department of the Veliko Tarnovo Regional Hospital. Some of them were later transferred to the surgery, neurosurgery, and intensive care units. Fortunately, none of the patients are currently in life-threatening condition, said Dr. Sibila Marinova, head of the Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Department at the hospital.
Among the injured are five Romanian citizens, including a child. Two of them, including the child, will be airlifted to Romania from Gorna Oryahovitsa Airport for further treatment, Dr. Marinova confirmed. Two others will be discharged for home recovery, while one will remain hospitalized in Veliko Tarnovo.
A pre-trial investigation into the circumstances of the crash is currently underway.
