This year, the average temperatures in August are expected to be above the norm, meteorologist Anastasiya Kirilova from the National Institute of Meteorology and Hydrology said on Thursday. The lowest temperatures in Bulgaria will be between 12C and 17C, while the highest will reach 35C to 40C.
In August, the average monthly temperature is 21C to 25C in valleys, 20C to 22C in high plains, and 6C to 14C in the mountains.
The average precipitation this August is expected to be around or below the norm, which is between 30 and 50 litres per square metres in valleys and high plains, between 20 and 35 l/sq m along the coast, and between 50 and 80 l/sq m in the mountains.
The August 1-10 period will have mostly sunny weather, with temperatures around the norm. The first days of this period will have thundery showers in the afternoon in Central Bulgaria and the mountains of Southwestern Bulgaria. Thunderstorms are expected in the mountains and temperatures close to the norm around August 5.
The August 10-20 period will have mostly sunny and dry weather. Temperatures will be higher than usual for that time of the year.
The August 20-30 period will have mostly sunny weather. Afternoon showers are expected around August 25 and the last days of this period, particularly in the mountains. Temperatures will drop to around the norm.
