site.btaCabinet to Allocate BGN 900,000 to Families Affected by Wildfires

The Cabinet has decided to allocate BGN 900,000 in aid to families affected by the wildfires, Social Policy Minister Borislav Gutsanov said at a briefing at the Council of Ministers on Wednesday. 

The decision was taken earlier in the day at the weekly Government meeting at Gutsanov's proposal, and the item was included as an emergency one on the agenda, the Minister explained.

"So far, they could apply for BGN 1,914. We are granting an additional BGN 3,000 per family, which amounts to nearly BGN 5,000 . Additionally, they can apply for another 2,500 BGN for equipment that was burned or destroyed during the fires. This brings the total amount per household to BGN 7,500. Of course, it must be the only residence, the buildings must be legal, and not vacation homes, second homes, third homes, or any other type of residence," explained Minister Gutsanov. 

He expressed his gratitude to the Prime Minister and his fellow ministers for their quick response and for including the item as an emergency item in Wednesday's meeting. “This is how we should work when the situation in the country is extraordinary, as is the case with the fires and the destruction of property, houses, and buildings belonging to Bulgarian families,” said the Minister of Labor and Social Policy.
