Bulgaria will withdraw from the International Organization for Space Communications Intersputnik. The government will propose to the National Assembly to denounce the accession agreement, which was ratified in 1972.

The reasons for the decision lie in the lack of transparent management that would ensure that the organization’s satellite fleet, which has a commercial nature, is not used against the interests of the member states.

The Intersputnik International Organization of Space Communications was founded on November 15 1971, in Moscow by the Soviet Union along with a group of seven formerly socialist states Poland, Czechoslovakia, East Germany, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Mongolia and Cuba. As of 2024, the organization had 25 member states.
