In a declaration read from the parliamentary rostrum here on Thursday, Velichie Floor Leader Ivelin Mihaylov warned that tourism on the Black Sea coast in Bulgaria is being systematically destroyed.

A recent visit to the coast convinced Mihaylov that both the number of people there and the quality of service provided are dropping. He added: "What we saw is how untreated water is poured directly into a nature reserve, and from there it goes directly into the sea."

The Velichie MP said that hotel managers shared with him that 2023 was hell, as children would enter the seawater and immediately start vomiting. He stated: "I can send you pictures of children on systems who were infected with Escherichia coli because the water [from Bulgarian beaches] is contaminated." Mihaylov alleged that Bulgarian institutions are aware of the problem and choose to turn a blind eye. He denounced the government for systematically killing the future of the country by doing nothing to fight crime and limit uncontrolled overbuilding.
