Bulgarians from the US established an organization to support Bulgarian classical music in America and around the world, bgvoice.com reported. Violinist Blagomira Lipari and composer Penka Kouneva are the founders and co-chairs of the non-profit organization Bulgarian Classical Concerts–Los Angeles, and director Georgi Zdravkov is also involved in the project.

Bulgarian Classical Concerts–Los Angeles has a mission to promote solo, chamber, orchestral, vocal and choral music by Bulgarian composers. They will conduct a series of concerts in order to introduce the general public in Los Angeles, the US West Coast and beyond to a variety of Bulgarian and global masterpieces that are not well known abroad.

Lipari and Kouneva compared Bulgarian composers to a gold treasure that should be introduced to the world.

Through performances by well-known Bulgarian and American musicians, the organizers also want to involve the younger generation with masterclasses and original concert programmes. In the spirit of collaboration and inclusion, the mission of Bulgarian Classical Concerts–Los Angeles is to build cultural bridges between the Bulgarian diaspora in the US and the diverse multi-ethnic audiences, performers and cultural institutions in the US.

The organization's inaugural concert took place on March 21, 2025. It was organized by the Consulate General of Bulgaria in Los Angeles.

So far, three more chamber concerts have been scheduled for the 2025-2026 season – one in November 2025 and the other two in March and May 2026.

Penka Kouneva is a Grammy-winning composer and studio orchestrator. Worked in Hollywood for 26 years scoring television, films, video games, and theme parks. Released two orchestral albums: The Woman Astronaut and Rebirth of Id. Holds the first-ever Ph.D. in composition from Duke University.

Blagomira Lipari is a solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. Featured soloist with the National Academy of Music Orchestra in Bulgaria, Orpheus Chamber Orchestra, and New Millennium Orchestra in Chicago. On the faculty of Hollywood Academy of Music and Arts, Arabesque Conservatory, and Vibe Performing Arts (Los Angeles). Holds a Doctorate degree in violin performance and orchestral conducting.
